OTA Broadcast Transmission: RF quality & SFN/DTS synchronization
Most importantly, for the actual service delivery to the end users throughout the Broadcast Transmission sites, TestTree proposes a monitoring of the actual RF transmission: transmitter quality, stability and most importantly the transmitter SFN/DTS synchronization.
Additionally, the SFN synchronisation monitor can be reinforced by monitoring the STLTP stream at the Transmitter input (modulator input) – detect transport network impairments on the stream availability & eventual delay issues which may cause the SFN desynchronisation – as well as the on-air RF signal quality in the SFN overlapping areas.
Broadcast Signalling for OTA: QoS monitoring
Passed the processing stage, the content will submit special signaling for Broadcast Transport & Transmission. At this phase the content is no longer processed, however the transport formats are adapted, which is why TestTree solution proposes to focus on the QoS monitor of the STL format, with a particular attention on the timing information which will serve as reference for an SFN/DTS transmission.
The Broadcast Gateway output is also a crucial point to monitor, indeed, a fault at this stage will be propagated to the entire OTA RF Transmission Network.
Overall Broadcast Network Quality View
TestTree GlobalViewer product provides a powerfull tool to centralize the entire broadcast network monitoring view, by aggregation of all EdgeProbe monitoring information.
A Map display provides a quick overview of the entire Transmission Quality. Highly customizable dashboards enable the creation of complete Quality Reports to proove the Service Availability & Network Quality for SLa commitements.
Studio Content Processing: QoS & QoE monitoring
The Station / HeadEnd / MCR (Master Control Room) is the source of the ATSC service, therefore the 24/7 supervision is key, allowing to detect the degradations before they have an impact on the content quality and are propagated throughout the network down to the end users.
With a particular focus on the ingest point – contractual handover point, the fault responsibility can engage into potential penalties – and the content processing phase (encoding / packaging) – content degradation at this stage will surely be noticed and degrade the end user experience.
TestTree solution proposes both QoS – quality of service: availability, packet loss.. – and QoE – quality of experience: content defects – monitoring for the content encoding phases.
NextGen TV OTT delivery: QoS & QoE monitoring
The CDN delivery quality can also be supervised to identify latency issues and their impact on the end-user perceived service quality.
Lab & Field test tools
The network planning/qualification phases and the advanced incident investigation require deep down analysis & versatile tools capable of receiving a variety of streams: IP, TS, DASH, .., STLTP, ATSC 1.0/3.0 RF … and providing an exhaustive compliancy analysis, with the objective to precisely identify the issues root cause.
TestTree proposes portable (compact & self-powered) ATSC test tools designed for both Lab and Field usage:
- ATSC 3.0 RF test signal modulation for network planning
- ATSC RF signal Capture (in the Field) and Playback (in the Lab) capabilities
- Drive Test / Network Coverage campaigns (with GPS synchronisation and view in Google Maps)
- ATSC 1.0/3.0 accurate RF signal measures and advanced signaling analysis (TS, STLTP, ….)
