The European Parliament adopted end of 2018 a Directive requiring all new car radios in the EU to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio. In extension, the Member States now have the freedom to introduce measures requiring consumer radios to be able to receive digital transmissions.

During the next few months, we should see DAB standards (DAB, DAB+) being deployed more and more widely. For example in France, more than 70% of the population will be able to receive DAB+ in less than 2 years.

Being prepared to FM/DAB+ compatibility

In order to validate the compatiblity for fix and mobile receivers, manufacturers must operate DAB+ to FM signals hand-over.

Once played back in lab, synchronized field FM and DAB+ recordings are the key to characterize receivers behaviors in real field conditions.
